The Process of Conformity assessment for PSE Mark (DENAN)

The certification process for PSE (DENAN) for Japan takes the following five steps: For details, please refer to Application for Conformity Assessment

1. Submission of application and test sample of the product designated for the Japanese market

2. Review of the application documentation to check which standards have already been fulfilled and which still need to be fulfilled

3. Conformity assessment to ensure all of the required standards are met for importing your product to the Japanese market

4. Issue of conformity certificates for your electrical and electronic products

PSE Mark (DENAN)

The DENAN Act designates the products being scope of Act (below ”Electrical Appliances and Meterials”). If the products of a Notifying Supplier manufacturing or importing such electrical product designated as "Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials", they have to undergo Conformity Assessment under Article 9 of the DENAN Law by a registered body, and the issued certificate has to be held by Notifying Supplier as stipulated in the Act. Other “Electrical Appliances and Materials” than “Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials” is not subject to the said Conformity Assessment, but there are stipulations regarding Obligation of Conformity to Technical Requirements, execution and recording of inspections as well as in the case of marking etc. Notifying Supplier has to fulfill these just like a Notifying Supplier producing “Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials”.

  • Conformity Assessment for Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials:
    The Conformity Assessment for Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials is based on the manufacturer’s application following DENAN Act regulations according to Clause 9.1. The certificate according to Clause 9 of the DENAN Act will be issued based on the result of the Conformity Assessment.

S-Mark Certification for Japan

With its network of laboratories, TÜV Rheinland offers various conformity assessment and certification services, including the SCEA S-Mark certification for various electrical and electronic products.

S-Mark certification is not obligatory, but can be used to prove the conformity of requirements, differentiate your product in the market, and improve factors of safety and quality management.

The following two types of S-Mark are available:

1. S-TÜV Mark:

This S-Mark is recommended by the Steering Council of Safety Certification for Electrical and Electronic Appliances and Parts of Japan (SCEA). It is voluntarily used by manufacturers and widely accepted in the Japanese market.

2. TÜV-S Mark:

The TÜV Rheinland S-Mark is an original mark issued by TÜV Rheinland to confirm compliance with various requirements. This mark can be issued not only for electrical and electronic products but also for other products.
