Gas Propulsion Systems in Vehicles
Drive Safely with Gas
With fuel prices rising the way they are, more and more drivers are turning to gas as an alternative. Whether it’s natural gas, compressed natural gas (CNG), or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) - our experts can advise you on all aspects of retrofitting. We can also conduct all the necessary tests: Right after installation and every two years.
Benefits at a Glance
With gas propulsion system testing and gas system installation inspections by TÜV Rheinland, you:
- Fulfill legal requirements.
- Gain peace of mind that your gas propulsion system was installed properly and safely.
- Help reduce the level of environmental pollution caused by motor vehicle emissions.
Gas Propulsion System Installation Testing
Gas propulsion system installation testing is due immediately after installation of the retrofit. You can have the gas propulsion system installation tested at all TÜV Rheinland inspection stations. We review the admissibility of the propulsion system, take a visual inspection of the individual components, a functional test of the system, and a leak test. The installation is then listed in the registration documents. Gas propulsion system installation testing costs €119.
Regular Gas Propulsion System Testing
Regular gas propulsion system testing ensures your safety. We can check your gas propulsion system as part of the main inspection, or you can provide proof of inspection with a certificate no older than 12 months. An additional regular gas propulsion system test is required if the gas propulsion system has undergone repairs and after accidents or fires. In the regular gas propulsion system test, we check
- Whether all components are present and correspond to the manufacturer's instructions,
- Functionality
- How well sealed all components are
For €23,80, we can conduct regular gas propulsion system tests as part of the main inspection at your nearest TÜV Rheinland inspection station. Without the main inspection, the regular gas propulsion system test costs €30,90.
What Do You Need to Remember Before Making the Conversion?
To register your vehicle with a gas propulsion engine in Germany, your car’s gas propulsion system needs
- An ECE permit
- Individual assessment by an expert who can confirm that your gas propulsion system installation complies with ECE standards
Gas Propulsion Systems with ECE Regulation Approval
Is ECE Regulation 115 approval available for the gas propulsion system that fits your vehicle? Then you need to take your car for gas propulsion system installation testing. Our staff check whether the gas propulsion system was installed correctly and safely. They then issue a gas propulsion system installation test certificate and registration proposal. You then submit both documents to the accrediting body to change your vehicle registration papers. You then also receive an approval plate in accordance with ECE-R 115, which has to be fixed to the vehicle permanently and plain to see.
Gas Propulsion Systems without ECE Regulation Approval
Want to convert your car, but there isn’t a gas propulsion system with the right ECE regulation type for your car? You can also install an individually approved gas propulsion system. However, individual installation comes with higher assessment costs, as your car will need to be judged by an expert. This unique test ensures that your new gas propulsion system meets the same safety level as a gas propulsion system with ECE regulation approval. Our expert also needs to make sure your car meets exhaust emission regulations. Our assessment also includes the gas propulsion system installation test and an assessment for issue of approval by the admission office.
By the way...
If your car is already standard fitted with a gas propulsion system, your vehicle documents are already complete.
