The non-profit TÜV Rheinland Foundation emerged from the TÜV Pfalz Foundation for Safety Technology and Environmental Protection. It is a legally capable foundation under civil law with its registered office in Cologne. The founder is TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V. Together with the TÜV Rheinland Foundation and the stock corporation, the association forms the TÜV Rheinland Group or, to put it simply, TÜV Rheinland.
Realignment of the foundation in 2012
In 2012, the foundation was realigned and given a broader focus. The Foundation's Articles of Association were revised and the Foundation's Executive Board was newly appointed. Important aspects were also added to the foundation's purpose, such as the promotion of development cooperation and education and training, and the inclusion of the fields of energy technology and transportation in the funding framework.
Along with the reorganization, the founder TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V. increased the foundation's capital by 1 million euros. This gives the foundation greater room for maneuver in its support of projects and facilities. Among other things, the increased foundation capital provides scope for its own projects, such as support for production facilities in the textile industry in Myanmar in 2013.
Guiding principle
TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V. is committed to important social goals: first and foremost, the goal of ensuring and expanding safety and ecological compatibility in the use of technology. The association implements this mission, among other things, through its foundation work.
Foundation purpose
The purpose of the TÜV Rheinland Foundation is listed in §2 of the Foundation's articles of association, which were revised in 2012. The foundation exclusively pursues non-profit and charitable purposes and has set itself the goal of making contributions to peaceful and amicable coexistence between people, nature and technology within the scope of its activities.
In particular, activities in the fields of safety engineering, energy technology and transportation, environmental protection, development work, education and training, including student aid, and international understanding are to be promoted.
In addition, the articles of association state that the foundation awards a cash prize for outstanding achievements in the field of safety technology and environmental protection or for promoting the goals and concerns of humanity in accordance with the principles of the UN Global Compact. In this context, the TÜV Rheinland Foundation has been presenting the International TÜV Rheinland Global Compact Award since 2008.
