Repairability Index for Electrical Products
Discard less, repair more, Promote green consumption
Global environmental problems are emerging non-stop, carbon emissions caused by the energy and materials consumption in product manufacturing are becoming more and more prominent. Environmental problems caused by electronic waste generated by product scrapping are intensifying. In order to improve the maintenance rate of products and extend the service life of equipment, France promulgated Law No. 2020-105 on Waste and Circular Economy ( Law No. 2020-105 ) on February 10, 2020.
According to relevant regulations, starting from January 1, 2021, manufacturers, importers, distributors or other operators of electronic and electrical equipment sold in the French market should provide consumers the information about repairability index of their products. As of June 2022, the requirements cover 13 categories of products.
With the advancement of China's strategic goals of "Carbon peaking and Carbon neutrality " , "Energy conservation, emission reduction, and low-carbon development " has become a social consensus, and every industry stakeholders have formulated action plans to reduce carbon emissions. To address the demand, TÜV Rheinland is introducing Repairability Index service for Electrical and Electronics Products, hoping to drive the industry to " discard less and repair more " throughout the product life cycle and contribute to reducing waste and pollution of electronic products; while in parallel guiding users to consume rationally and greenly.
