USA - Notice of Intent to List 1,1,1-Trichloroethane and Leucomalachite Green Under Proposition 65
The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) intends to list 1,1,1-trichloroethane (CAS RN 71-55-6) and leucomalachite green (CAS RN 129-73-7), as known to the state to cause cancer under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65).
1,1,1-trichloroethane is mainly used as a solvent, degreaser. Manufacture for domestic use banned in US since 2002.
Leucomalachite green is used as a dye
precursor to malachite green (Gessner & Mayer,
2000). Other uses of leucomalachite green
include as a reagent in several analytical applications, e.g. for the quantitative colorimetric
determination of haemoglobin and other haem
compounds in forensic science.
