USA - California Adopted the Restriction of Textile Fiberglass in Mattresses, Juvenile Products and Upholstered Furniture
On October 8, the California governor signed the bill AB 1059 banning textile fiberglass in mattresses, juvenile products or upholstered furniture, effectively January 1, 2027.
Juvenile product means a product designed for residential use by infants and children under 12 years of age, including but not limited to, a bassinet, booster seat, changing pad, floor playmat, highchair, highchair pad, infant bouncer, infant carrier, infant seat, infant swing, infant walker, nursing pad, nursing pillow, playpen side pad, playard, portable hook-on chair, stroller, and children's nap mat.
The bill also extends the flame retardant limit (≤1000 ppm) to adult mattresses. The original law exempts adult mattresses from the requirement. However, the bill AB 1059 would make it inoperative on January 1, 2027.
