The future of vehicle damage reporting has begun
Comprehensive and innovative solutions for reporting vehicle condition
Digital technologies that also use artificial intelligence (AI) offer entirely new opportunities for documenting and evaluating vehicles and vehicle damage. We are therefore systematically developing digital solutions to significantly improve efficiency for fleets and carpools, lessors and lessees, car dealerships, car logistics companies, vehicle manufacturers, and car-sharing platforms. We can then reduce your costs, your effort, and your risks.
One such forward-looking and clever application is our adomea scanner. We are currently developing the already leading system for automated documentation and detection of hail damage into the technology leader in recording the exterior vehicle condition. With the help of artificial intelligence, we can classify damage and filter it for you. In the next development step, the AI software will even automatically determine the optimal repair route, calculate repair costs and determine the reduced value.
Efficiency gains in every area of the automotive industry
With our expertise and our unique adomea scanner, we can support you as a partner. Find out more about the benefits our applications provide and how we can improve your business model.
In the final inspection, the adomea scanner detects irregularities down to the micrometer range on request, and thus quickly and efficiently uncovers systematic defects in production. In the case of new vehicles and young used vehicles waiting for delivery, you achieve a high level of efficiency and objectivity in quality and output control, and protect yourself against possible recourse claims. Also, with regard to the transfer of vehicles, the transfer of risk is secured by detailed, neutral and, above all, fast documentation.
When distributing vehicles of any kind, the adomea scanner reliably documents the condition at the time of transfer of risk. Damage can thus be visualized, documented and forwarded quickly, efficiently and in compliance with specified standards. The scanner can also be used to evaluate or check the repair quality. In doing so, we are able to link up with assessment tools specified by the customer. With the new additional module, we can also record damage to the underbody for you on request – this is important for electric cars, for example, where the valuable traction battery is usually located.
The automated detection of damage not only accelerates the process of vehicle acceptance, e.g. of leasing returns, used cars and new vehicles – the adomea scanner filters and classifies damage to the body shell and evaluates it according to your requirements, for example according to standards of the Fair Damage Assessment. It is also possible to classify damage to workshop replacement vehicles as well as rental and sharing vehicles and in B2B trade of used vehicles. However, the scan can also be extended to other areas, such as the recording of the condition of customer vehicles prior to service and repair work. On the one hand, this protects you from unjustified damage claims – for example, if a customer claims that his vehicle was damaged in your garage. On the other hand, it is possible to proactively offer repairs based on the scan results.
Our innovative adomea scanner is ideal for objectively and efficiently documenting the condition of used vehicles in B2B trade. Particularly in online trading, you can achieve the highest level of transparency. In less than a minute, the scanner detects even the smallest irregularities in the vehicle surface such as chipped paint, stone chips, the finest scratches, repainting, rim damage and even previous foiling. It also makes damage to the underbody visible, which is particularly important when it comes to the transfer of liability of electric cars, because this is usually where the valuable battery is located. In addition, you can use the captured images for online documentation. A big advantage is the memory size of only 200 MB for all images including damage visualization.
In the context of mass inspections, for example for the settlement of hail damage, our scanner delivers objective results quickly and efficiently. It is mobile and can be set up on site within six hours (Miko 1.0). If required, the mobile system even calculates the repair costs for paint-free repairs. Important for you: Due to the unique sensitivity and the possibility to classify damages, the adomea scanner can distinguish e.g. "fresh" hail damages from other, older damages. We can convert the scan result into any format and also integrate it into interfaces used by the customer. The system is already used by leading global insurers.
The adomea scanner provides you with an automated and exact documentation of the exterior vehicle condition when the vehicles are returned at the end of the contract period. Whether dent, scratch, chipped paint, stone chips – the unique possibility to classify damages automatically revolutionizes the entire return process. Neutral and efficient, we are able to work according to common valuation standards, such as fair vehicle evaluation and manufacturer specifications. In the same way, we can serve individual manufacturer-independent standards. In addition to the outer skin, with the new additional module, we are also able to make damage to the underbody visible for you on request. This saves an inspection on the stage and is also increasingly important for electric cars, where the valuable traction battery is usually located.
Keep a continuous and transparent eye on the condition of your fleet throughout the rental cycle. By regularly scanning the vehicles at a central location during the rental cycle, you document the condition of the vehicles with high precision and can allocate damage accordingly. Thanks to the new automated classification of damage, you can immediately and actively assert any claims against your customers. You also benefit from our scan variants when outsourcing vehicles (buy-back).
Vehicle scanning according to need
Hail scan: Fully automated detection, classification, and documentation of hail dents on a vehicle’s exterior. A connection to costing systems also enables automated calculation of repair costs based on paintless dent repair. You benefit from high levels of efficiency and objectivity in preparing expert assessments as well as controlling quality following repairs to new and nearly new vehicles. This will avoid future disputes.
“Advanced” vehicle scan: The fully automated and detailed documenting of vehicle condition gives assurance when transferring risk. All surface damage is documented via visualization of measured data. In the event of subsequent claims, any damage can be precisely checked for whether it was present at the time of the scan.
Ongoing development of AI modules means additional scan services will be available in the future: “Premium” vehicle scan: In addition to the fully automated and detailed documentation of vehicle condition, the “premium” scan also automatically detects any type of damage. Existing damage can then be quickly and precisely determined and claims instantly made. This saves valuable time in detecting damage, and the scan’s precision is further enhanced so that no surface damage is overlooked.
“Excellence” vehicle scan: In addition to the vehicle condition documentation, "excellence" provides fully automated classification and listing of all surface damage per component. This means that our algorithms not only automatically detect any damage, but also classify it according to type and severity and assign it to individual components. A connection to costing systems enable repair costs and any decreased values to be calculated.
From university project to technological leadership in determining vehicle condition
The system emerged from a project by the TU Dortmund University. In 2012/2013, German and North American insurers were already using it. In 2014, high-resolution cameras were introduced and a year later the 3D model database was significantly expanded thereby further enhancing the scanner's performance. The next major step took place in 2018 with integration of additional AI modules. Today, we are operating eleven mobile devices worldwide, including long-term contracts with European and US insurers.
Automated recording of damage and documenting vehicle condition with unrivaled precision
Simply described, the adomea scanner is a several meters long mobile tunnel with tens of thousands of interior LEDs which can be used to make a wide range of measurement-patterns. After a vehicle has entered through the automatic doors, a sophisticated measuring process detects even the tiniest unevenness in a vehicle’s exterior. 18 high-resolution cameras with a frame rate of 60 fps record the vehicle’s condition in unmatched quality with a measurement resolution of less than 300 µm.
To precisely detect damage and document a vehicle’s condition, the adomea scanner combines different measuring signals: color image, surface curvature, reflectivity. For example, surface norms are used to determine the depth and diameter of dents or other deformations. Combining the measurement signals reveal even minimal alterations on a surface, scratches, stone chips, missing parts, repainting, and even rim damage.
Measuring times are well under one minute per vehicle. Just two more minutes are required for the software to process the data. Presenting the results and further processing via interfaces can be adapted to individual needs.
An important fact: the current hardware is already compatible for future applications so new scan variants can be easily implemented.
