Application of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) during Product Development

This 2-day workshop gives an introduction to Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) applied during development of safety-related products. Basic principles of an FMEA are introduced and how these are applied accordingly.

Additionally the introduced FMEAs are being applied in comprehensive and practical exercises.

All aspects which are necessary to perform an FMEA on system, bloc and component level are introduced and again focus is put on practical exercises involving participants.

IEC 61508 and ENISO 13849-1, category 4 exemplarily form the normative background for these considerations and exercises.

This workshop is only available in English language as in-house workshop.

Target Group

Hardware developers, project managers, managers responsible for product development and application of safety-related systems.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of standards IEC 61508, EN ISO 13849-1 and their application in safety relevant products.

Content of Workshop

General introduction and approach of the method FMEA

Introduction and presentation of procedure to perform an FMEA in different development levels.

  • System level (Application and operation of a safety-related product.)
  • Bloc level (functional discrete units of a safety-related product)
  • Component level (of selected function units)
  • Software FMECA

Excercises

The introduced approach of different FMEAs is demonstrated based on comprehensive real-life examples and exercises and results are discussed with participants in detail.

Registration and terms of participation

The attendance fee includes conference materials, refreshments and lunch. The registration is binding once confirmed by the organizer in writing. Invoices will be issued shortly before prior to the start of the event. Please note that, because of the limited number of participants, we will charge a cancellation fee of 50% of the attendance fee for any cancellation received later than two weeks before the beginning of the event. No part of the attendance fee will be refunded for cancellations received later than one week before the event. The event only takes place with a minimum number of 10 participants. If a workshop/training has to be cancelled for reasons for which TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH is responsible, only participation fees already paid will be refunded.

This workshop is held live online either via Skype or MS Teams.

  • Registered participants will be invited to attend the live online workshop by email.
  • An invitation to attend either a Skype or MS Teams session will be sent by TÜV Rheinland to each participant in due time.

In case participants do not have Skype or MS Team available, the invitation sent by TÜV Rheinland will allow and guide them to get according access.

  • One week before the live online workshop, a technical check online meeting will take place in order to assure that registrant’s technical requirements (laptop, video camera) as well as the working ambience (quiet working area) are suitable.
  • In case major technical difficulties occur during the live-online workshop, participants can re-attend the workshop at a later date.
  • Workshop documents are made available via a download link.

Note:

Short breaks of 5 minutes will take place every half hour.

Video should be switched on throughout the live online workshop, as it allows the trainer to see participants and to keep eye contact.
