Honory Chairman of the Supervisory Board
Prof. Dr. Bruno O. Braun was Chairman of the Executive Board of TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V. until June 2021. From 2010 to 2019 (April), he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TÜV Rheinland AG. Previously, Prof. Braun had been the Chairman of the Executive Board of TÜV Rheinland AG since 1993.
He completely reorganised the Group, changing it from a characteristically regional testing organisation commissioned by the government into a service provider operating on the free market. Within this timeframe he integrated TÜV Pfalz, TÜV Berlin Brandenburg and the Motor Vehicle Division of TÜV Saarland into the Group. LGA in Nuremberg was integrated and expanded under a PPP (public private partnership).
Prof. Dr. Bruno O. Braun, born on 26 August 1942 in Bietigheim (Württemberg), began an apprenticeship to become a mechanic before taking his college entrance exams. He then studied mechanical engineering, earned his doctorate and was promoted to professor. Equipped with a combination of practical and scientific knowledge, he began his career in the industrial sector. For 25 years he has been a member of the board of various incorporated companies and has been their President and CEO for 20 of those years.
He has also volunteered his time to many social and cultural institutions. In addition, Prof. Braun has been an honorary consul of the Republic of Latvia since 1994. In 2003 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2007, the German state of Northrhine Westphalia awarded him with its Order of Merit. For his professional and honorary commitment for the collective good, he was awarded with the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Since May 2007, Prof. Braun has been President of the VDI - the Association of German Engineers representing the interests of roughly one million engineers in Germany. The Presidentship ended December 2012. Since 2010, he has been a member of the Innovation Dialogue between the German government, the industry, and the science community, initiated by the German chancellor Dr Angela Merkel, and German chairman of the German-Chinese Dialogue Forum.
In 2013, the Association of German Engineers VDI awarded Prof. Braun with their Grashof Votive Medal. It is the highest German award for engineers and their exemplary scientific or professional achievements in the field of engineering.
