WPC (Wireless Planning Coordination), Department of Telecommunications(DoT), Ministry of Communication & IT, Government of India, has released latest gazette on the 'ETA(Equipment Type Approval) through Self-Declaration Scheme', to public – dated: 26th February 2019 and will be immediately put into effect. Since this scheme of ETA type approval / certification is very new to Indian market, below are few key highlights for your further understanding & reference:
- WPC – Approval is a mandatory requirement for all wireless radio modules (Transceivers, Transmitters & Receivers) and Wireless / IoT products entering & being marketed in Indian Market.
- Wireless products which are listed/notified in the gazette are:
- Mobile / Smart Phones,
- Electronic notepads,
- Laptops,
- Smart watches,
- SRD devices(including accessories, microphones, speakers, headphones, earphones, printers, scanners, cameras) etc. which operate in license exempted bands as per Indian National Frequency Allocation Plan(NFAP).
- List of Mandatory Documents to be submitted: Online fee payment receipt, Self DoC application, test reports from an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory , local representative(LR) details, consignment details and various other technical specifications need to be shared to etaselfdecl.wpc-dot@gov.in.
- Note: WPC has not yet voided/nullified the previous scheme of certification i.e. ETA via application submission to WPC. Also note that specific end-products are listed in the gazette and no other products or the RF modules are listed. Will have to wait for further gazette notifications by the authority, to obtain the precise certification procedures and policies.
