USA - Three Carcinogens Listed Under Proposition 65
The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adding the following carcinogenic chemicals to the list of chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, effective August 11, 2023.
- anthracene (CAS RN 120-12-7) - a PAH, widely used to make dyes, plastic and pesticides. It is also a wood preservative in wood and lumber
- 2-bromopropane (CAS RN 75-26-3) - used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes and other organic
- dimethyl hydrogen phosphite (CAS RN 868-85-9) - used as a flame retardant on nylon 6 fibers and as a chemical intermediate in the production of pesticides and in lubricant additives and adhesives
The warning requirement for significant exposures to these chemicals will take effect after one year, which is August 11, 2024.
