USA - Three carcinogenic chemicals listed under the California Proposition 65
Effective January 27, 2023, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adding the following chemicals to the list of chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer for purposes of Proposition 65. The warning requirement for significant exposures to these chemicals will take effect on January 27, 2024.
- 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (CAS RN 109-70-6),
- 1-butyl glycidyl ether (CAS RN 2426-08-6), and
- glycidyl methacrylate (CAS RN 106-91-2)
1-bromo-3-chloropropane is used in the preparation active pharmaceutical ingredient intermediate such as gemfibrozil and reproterol. It is also involved in the preparation of cardiovascular diseases and analgesic drugs materials.
1-butyl glycidyl ether is used as a reactive diluent in epoxy resins, and as an acid acceptor for stablizing chlorinated solvents and chemical intermediates.
glycidyl methacrylate is a chemical intermediate for polymers. It is also a monomor and diluent in epoxy resin formulations. It is also used in emulsion for impregnating paper and textiles, in paint coatings, and adhesive applications.
