USA - Rhode Island Proposes to Ban PFAS in Various Consumer Products
Rhode Island introduced a bill H7356 on January 31, 2024 banning PFAS in various of consumer products from January 1, 2027.
The manufacture, sell, or offer for sale in Rhode Island of the following products shall not contain any intentionally added perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS):
- artificial tur
- carpets or rugs
- cookware
- fabric treatments
- juvenile products
- menstrual product
- ski wax
- textile articles
Furthermore, the bill also proposes a reporting rule, disclosing certain information to the public if a product or its component containing intentionally added PFAS from January 1, 2028:
- the name and type of product or product component containing intentionally added PFAS
- the universal product code or UPC of the product or product component
- the purpose or function for which the intentionally added PFAS are used in the product or product component
- the identity and amount of all PFAS compounds in the product or product component
- the name and address of the manufacturer, and the name, address, and phone number of a contact person for the manufacturer
