US - Maryland Proposes to Ban PFAS in Certain Products
Maryland proposed to ban per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in certain products in January.
A person may not manufacture or knowingly sell, offer for sale, or distribute for sale or use in the State a rug or carpet to which PFAS chemicals have been intentionally added on or after January 1, 2024.
The State also proposed to prohibit PFAS using in food package or food packaging component designed and intended for direct food contact on or after January 1, 2024.
Furthermore, product manufacturer shall establish a certificate of compliance to attest that their products (i.e. rug or carpet or food package or food packaging component) are in compliance with the requirements.
The bill is also banning PFAS using in Class B firefighting foam.
