Taiwan - Proposed to Prohibit PFHxS and its Salts

The Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) proposed to list perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) and its salts and related compounds as toxic chemical substances in the Schedule 1 of the Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Control Act (TCCSCA) as the substances were added into the Stockholm Convention last year. The EPA proposed to completely ban the uses of the group of substances except for research, experimental and educational purposes.

The limits of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), perfluorooctane sulfonate lithium salt, perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are also going to be revised from 0.01% to completely prohibited.

The industry will be given at least 6 months up to 18 months to adapt to the changes after the enforcement. The comment period will end on August 10, 2023.
