Malaysia - New Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024
On November 26, 2024, Malaysia ST(Energy Commission) published a new Act on Energy Efficiency and Conservation. The Act aims to improve energy efficiency across various sectors, reduce waste of energy, and support the country’s environmental goals, including carbon neutrality by 2050. The Act applies to large energy consumers, specific buildings, and energy using products, setting out the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders to ensure compliance with energy efficiency standards.
The Act came into force on January 1, 2025.
For energy-using products, manufacturers and importers must register with the Energy Commission, obtain certificates of energy efficiency (COE) for their products, and comply with the minimum energy performance standards.
