Japan - System Development for the Aerial Use of 5.2 GHz Band Wireless LAN
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will solicit opinions on the proposed amendments to the Radio Law Enforcement Regulations (Radio Regulatory Commission Regulation No. 14 of 1950) and other related regulations to facilitate the use of 5.2 GHz band wireless LANs in the air. The period for submitting opinions will be from Saturday, February 1, 2025, to Monday, March 3, 2025, as per the following guidelines.
Wireless LAN technology is increasingly being used in drones and other devices, heightening the demand for the 5 GHz frequency band in the air. In addition, 5 GHz wireless LAN is expected to be used for infrastructure inspections, such as bridges, and for aerial video production, owing to its ability to transmit and receive high-definition video.
