Japan - Public Consultation on the Prohibition of PFOA

​The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of the Environment propose to prohibit the import of certain products containing perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in 2023.

The following products are included in the proposal:

• ​Floor wax
  
• Protective and antifouling agents for textile products
  
• Water / oil repellent agents
  
• Textile products with water / oil repellent treatment
  
• Defoamer
  
• Coating agents
  
• Optical fiber or coating agents applied on its surface
  
• fire extinguisher / fire extinguishing agent for fire extinguisher / foam fire extinguishing agent
  

The public consultation will open until April 2, 2022.
