France - Textiles Labeling AGEC Law Update
In February 2020, France has signed an ambitious new law to reduce waste and establish a circular economy, Loi n° 2020-105 relative à la lutte contre le gaspillage et à l’économie circulaire (Law No. 2020-105 Regarding a Circular Economy and the Fight Against Waste), also called AGEC law. The implementing Decree 2021-835 was published on June 30th, 2021 and provides more details on the labeling.
This law covers a wide range of products and it requires every household product including textiles to carry the Triman logo as well as an additional sorting information. The Triman logo is nothing new, it is already mandatory for household products that fall under the Extended Producer Responsibility System (EPR), however the AGEC law gives it a new legal frame and provides the possibility for fines in case of missing labeling.
