Europe | Regulation (EU) 2024/2570 amending the POP-Regulation with regard to methoxychlor
On September 27, 2024, an amendment to the EU Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation (EU) 2019/20211 was published as Regulation (EU) 2024/25702 to add methoxychlor (CAS No. 72-43-5).
Methoxychlor is added to Annex I of the POPs Regulation and sets a limit for the unintentional presence of traces of methoxychlor in substances, mixtures and articles to ≤ 0.01 mg/kg.
The restriction of methoxychlor shall apply from October 17, 2024.
Methoxychlor is a pesticide. In May 2023, the substance was added to Annex A of the UN Stockholm Convention and it was decided that the production and use of the substance should be eliminated worldwide. European Union as a member of the Convention, it is obliged to implement measures to regulate this chemical.
