Europe - France Parliament Adopts PFAS Law
Starting in 2026, France will implement a ban on the
manufacture, import, export, and sale of wax products, cosmetics,
consumer textiles, shoes, and their waterproofing agents that contain
PFAS.
Additionally, from 2030, this ban will extend to all textiles
containing these substances, with the exception of protective clothing
for safety and civil security professionals.
Initially, the draft
law included a ban on non-stick saucepans, but this provision was
removed following strong industry lobbying.
Furthermore, the new
regulations will add PFAS to the list of substances monitored in
drinking water in France. Companies releasing PFAS into the environment
will also face a fee of €100 per 100 kg of PFAS emitted.
Please note
that the bill still needs to undergo several procedural steps, including
a constitutionality review and official publication in France’s
official journal, before it can be enforced.
