Canada - Proposes to add TMTD to the List of Toxic Substances

​The substance thioperoxydicarbonic diamide (TMTD) with a CAS number of 137-26-8 is considered to meet the ecological criterion for a toxic substance as set out in paragraph 64(a) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). Therefore, the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Health are recommending to add TMTD to Schedule 1 to CEPA (the List of Toxic Substances).

TMTD is primarily used as a process regulator for manufacturing rubber product in Canada. It is used as a component in automotive parts, in sealants and adhesives. It is also used in registered pest control products. In Canada, it may also be used in the manufacture of certain food packaging materials, as well as in latex rubber cosmetic products.

The consultation is open for 60 days until December 7, 2022.
