OPPO Find N3 Unveiled at Global Launch Event with TÜV Rheinland's Reliable Folding Certification

Greater China | 30 October, 2023

On October 19, OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. (OPPO) held a global press conference to announce its latest foldable smartphone, the Find N3, which has successfully passed TÜV Rheinland Greater China certification. TÜV Rheinland, an international independent third-party testing, inspection and certification organization, issued its Reliable Folding certification for the Find N3. During the event, a live connection was made with the TÜV Rheinland testing laboratory to showcase the real-time testing process for the mobile phone. Frank Holzmann, TÜV Rheinland's Global Vice President of Electrical, and Jay Yang, Vice President of Greater China Electrical, were present at the conference.

The Reliable Folding certification is a quality performance evaluation standard introduced by TÜV Rheinland specifically for foldable screen smartphones. This standard assesses four major criteria: physical performance, holding comfort, scene durability test, and 10,000-fold durability. Based on actual data, more than 40 tests are conducted to assess the display color accuracy in the bending area, touch response, bend lifespan, creases, and more. Notably, OPPO's Find N, N2 series, N3 Flip, and other products have also attained TÜV Rheinland Reliable Folding certification.

During the conference, TÜV Rheinland technical experts exhibited the actual testing procedure used for the OPPO Find N3's folding mechanism. Attendees witnessed that even after successfully passing all certification test thresholds, the product was still being continuously folded in the lab. Remarkably, at the time of the press event, the device had been folded over 1 million times. This exemplifies that the OPPO Find N3’s folding screen retains its exceptional display quality and operational performance even after extensive usage, epitomizing the product's reliability.

TÜV Rheinland's Reliable Folding certification process also entails extreme tests such as resistance to impacts from foreign objects (simulating a device drop), folding at a high temperature of 50°C, and folding at a chilly -20°C. Products must continue to offer an optimal user experience after these tests, ensuring minimal crease changes, consistent screen flatness, reduced hinge noise, smooth opening and closing actions, and minimal distortions in the bending area. The goal is to meet consumers' expectations for dependable and long-lasting foldable screens, ensuring a stellar user experience.

Jay Yang stated in his speech: "Over the past 151 years, we have witnessed and participated in numerous industrial revolutions. From minor items in the kitchen such as pots and pans to major innovations like elevators and cars that have greatly facilitated people's mobility, we can see the long-term efforts of TÜV Rheinland engineers behind the logic of these products. Time and again, starting from real-world application scenarios and through long-term tracking of user habits, they have designed strict test cases and established a standard system with genuine practical value to drive and validate the evolution and improvement of products. There are countless tests, just like the folding reliability test you all saw in the live broadcast just now, where the testing process seems exceptionally mundane. However, this requires our engineers to ensure that hundreds of thousands, even millions, of tests are conducted with consistent quality and quantity, and this dedication must be maintained over the long term. This perseverance has accompanied countless products in their journey from being merely safe to use to becoming highly functional and durable.

“This journey of accompaniment is incredibly long. TÜV Rheinland's multiple generations of engineers have traveled it for 151 years, and we are not alone. Along the way, we have encountered brands like OPPO. Their continuous refinement of products and their caring about every user experience align with our own commitment to long-term dedication."
