On September 6, at the IFA Berlin, TÜV Rheinland Group issued the "Product Carbon Footprint" certificate to Midea refrigerators (including the MDRS791MIA series and MDRB521MGA series). At the same time, the Midea refrigerator (model: MDRF648FGA45) also received the TÜV Rheinland Energy Efficiency Class A Quality-mark certificate. This marks the third consecutive year that Midea has introduced refrigerators with Energy Efficiency Class A certification.
Ralph Kobsik, General Manager of Midea Europe GmbH, Marc Zaplin, Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Europe Electrical, and Brian Lin, Vice General Manager of Field Sales of TÜV Rheinland Greater China Electrical attended the event.
Ralph Kobsik said in his speech, "This year marks the third year of Midea Group's implementation of the green strategy. We are committed to promoting sustainable development through green manufacturing, green materials, green packaging, green use, green design, and green certification. Despite the challenges encountered in achieving these commitments, significant results have been achieved. Currently, Midea Group operates five lighthouse factories, including the Midea refrigerator Jingzhou factory. We have taken a series of measures, including the use of green electricity, the adoption of recyclable materials, the provision of environmentally friendly packaging, maintenance, and recycling, to provide consumers with green, environmentally friendly, and high-energy-efficiency products."
Marc Zaplin stated, "As the issue of global climate change becomes increasingly severe, both enterprises and consumers have realized the importance of environmental protection and the use of energy-saving and eco-friendly products. We have witnessed an increasing number of manufacturers and brands launching green sustainable products. Over the past two years, we have issued green product certificates and marks to Midea refrigerators. This year, Midea refrigerators received the 'Product Carbon Footprint' certificate and Energy Efficiency Class A certificate, which not only demonstrates their commitment to sustainable development but also further enhances the market recognition and competitiveness of the Midea brand."
The life cycle of refrigerator products covers the stages of raw material acquisition, pre-processing, refrigerator manufacturing, product distribution, use and maintenance, and end-of-life disposal. TÜV Rheinland assessed the carbon footprint of Midea refrigerators based on the ISO 14067 standard requirements and product category criteria, by means of product inspection, factory inspection, greenhouse gas emission statement audit, and supply chain activity data assessment. TÜV Rheinland issued the product carbon footprint certificate for Midea refrigerator products with the carbon footprint results from cradle to gate and that from cradle to grave.
At the same time, TÜV Rheinland evaluated and verified the Midea MDRF648FGA45 refrigerator according to its own standard 2 PfG 2771/05.21, and the results showed that it met the requirements of the European Energy Efficiency Label Class A, and received the TÜV Rheinland Quality-mark certificate. This model of refrigerator uses the eco-friendly refrigerant R600a with a lower global warming potential (GWP). It provides high cooling efficiency and low power consumption, contributing to a reduced environmental impact.
As a leading global technical service provider, TÜV Rheinland is deeply involved in the home appliance field, committed to guiding the industry to continuously adapt to market trends and providing consumers with safe, eco-friendly, and high-performance products. In the field of low-carbon energy saving, TÜV Rheinland has more than ten years of rich experience and technical accumulation, and has provided the entire life cycle of energy consumption and carbon emission data collection, modeling quantification indicators, and assessment services for industries such as automotive, chemical, photovoltaic, electrical and electronic, real estate, batteries, and building materials, helping enterprises to continuously reduce their carbon footprint in organizational operations and from a product life cycle perspective.
