‘Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018’ provide a system for the enforcement of the Regulation (EU) 2016/425, which is incorporated into UK law. ‘Before placing PPE on the GB market, an importer must ensure that the appropriate conformity assessment procedures referred to in Article 19 have been carried out by the manufacturer. This means that the PPE must comply with the essential health and safety requirements set out in Annex II of the 2016 Regulation. They must ensure that the manufacturer has drawn up technical documentation; the PPE bears the UKCA marking and is accompanied by the declaration of conformity and required documents and identification marks. Until 31 December 2022, the UKCA marking may be affixed to a label affixed to, or a document accompanying, the PPE*.’ Different requirements may apply in Northern Ireland.
