South Korea - Energy Efficiency Rating Labelling and e-Standby Program

​The efficiency management system includes the mandatory Energy Efficiency Rating Labeling System and the e-Standby program, which are promoted to improve the efficiency of energy-using devices and to expand the distribution of high-efficiency products.

The Energy Efficiency Rating Labeling System is a mandatory reporting system designed to allow consumers to easily purchase energy-efficient products and to encourage manufacturers (importers) to produce and sell energy-saving products from the production (import) stage. In this system, efficiency ratings are divided into ratings 1 to 5 based on energy efficiency or energy usage. The Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS), which is the lower limit of energy efficiency, is applied.

The e-Standby Program is a mandatory reporting system that includes the Standby Power Warning Label and the Energy Saving Label. The Standby Power Warning Label is a mandatory label for products that do not meet standby power reduction standards. The Energy Saving Label is a voluntary label for products that meet standby power reduction standards.
