Type Approval of Vehicles, Trucks and Motorcycles
In Mexico, importers as well as foreign and local manufacturers of motor vehicles, trucks and motorcycles must undergo the local motor vehicle homologation process. Focused on environmental aspects, homologation includes a wide range of vehicles from motorcycles to trucks powered by internal combustion engines including alternative fuels. Documentation of global certifications issued by an accredited third-party laboratory and/or certification body or authority may be submitted for approval. Vehicles may be registered locally for importing and/or domestic marketing upon successful type approval from the appropriate recognized authorities. Exceptions may apply. Product Scope
(1) Petrol, Diesel, LNG and CNG motor vehicles with GVW up to 3,857 kg,
(2) Diesel motor vehicles with GVW over 3,857 kg,
(3) Petrol, Diesel, LNG, CNG and alternative-fuel motor vehicles with GVW up to 3,857 kg, and
(4) 2 and 4-stroke motorcycles and tricycles.
