India - Indian Boiler Regulation (IBR)

Pressure vessels are used in several energy industries, such as fossil and nuclear energy. Manufacturers and suppliers of boilers and their components must prove that their products adhere to national and regional safety standards. This directive applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of pressure equipment that use steam. A Boiler is a pressure vessel in which steam is generated for external use. Vessels, with a capacity of more than 25 l and more than 1 kg/cm2 design gauge pressure and working gauge press, need to be inspected. Also Boiler components like Steam - and Feed pipings, Superheaters or any other external or internal part of a boiler which is subject to a pressure exceeding one kilogram per centimeter square gauge, are in the scope of IBR. The Indian Boiler Regulation (IBR) defines standards for product design and construction as well as inspection and testing methods. The IBR requires that an inspection company approved by the Central Boiler Board (CBB) must certify all pressure equipment using steam. Only approved components and material may be imported into India.
