The objective is to all those who are involved in the operation and maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems with elementary and necessary knowledge about functional safety, based on the international standards IEC 61508: edition 2010 and IEC 61511 edition 2016.
After learning the basics about functional safety in the earlier phases, the training will take the participants through all following operational phases of the safety lifecycle: from Installation and Commissioning to Overall Safety Validation, Operation, Maintenance and Repair, Prooftesting and Modifications all the way to Decommissioning.
Target Group
This course is ideally suited for all people involved in the Operational phase of Safety Instrumented Systems e.g. Operators, Instrument Engineers, Maintenance Engineers, Installation Supervisors/Teamleaders; in other words, all people that touch or work with the safety system in the phase where the process is “live and dangerous”.
You are invited to learn more about safety systems in general and learn what the IEC standards are telling on how to maintain and increase the systematic capability of the organisation responsible for safety of people, environment and asset.

In accordance with TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of functional safety.
- A Technical Diploma or Certificate or equivalent engineer level responsibilities status as certified by the employer.
Course information
Duration: 2.5 days
- The first two days is the training program: 09:00–12:00, 13:00–17:00
- Third day in the morning is the examination – 3 hours (maximum)

- Filled out eligibility forms must be sent in two weeks before training date at the latest.

Alternatively local language as Dutch, Korean or Hindi.
In all cases the written material and examination will be in English initially, for the future more languages and/or local translations are expected.
Rules
- Prerequisite to do the examination is that the applicant has to attend Yokogawa's training course “TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Technician SIS”.
- Pass score is 75%.
- There are 30 multiple (3) choice questions. At the most 2 good answers per question are possible, which is indicated if applicable.
- There are 5 safety cases. The maximum points to be earned per case are mentioned.
- The examination questions and exercises will be handed over at the start of the examination.
- It is not allowed to bring any documents or (hand held) pc to the exam.
- It is not allowed to take any documents or notices from the exam.
- Check of the examination results will be done by two FS Technician trainers of Yokogawa.
- Counter check will be done by TÜV Rheinland.
- Discussion about the results is not possible.
- Applicants who succeed will receive their certificate from TÜV Rheinland, which may take some time.
Re-examination
(for those who did not pass the examination)
- Within one year after a failed examination, applicants may sign up once for another examination, free of charge.
- If applicants sign up for attending the training course again, they have to pay full course price.
