This 3-day FS Technician course is aimed specifically at technicians and engineers who manage, plan, operate, maintain, repair, test and modify existing safety-related systems in industrial plants.
The International standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 require the following: Persons involved in the life cycle phases of safety-related systems - planning, installation, commissioning, testing, maintenance and modification - must demonstrate their competence accordingly.
In this training course, you will learn valuable skills and knowledge in order to better understand tasks regarding safety technology and safety functions in the overall context of the functional safety of your plant and implement them more efficiently. You will become familiar with important terms and background information from the overall spectrum of functional safety topics.
Target Group
The training is primarily aimed at Operation & Maintenance employees.
However, the course is also suitable for engineers who can demonstrate 2 years of experience in working with safety systems.
In general this training is valuable for all plant employees who have to be trained according to the requirements of the related standards (proof of competence management).

Requirements
According to the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Training Program:
- Proof of technical education training or technical vocational training or a reference letter from the employer confirming equivalent experience and responsibilities.
- At least 2 years of experience in the field of Functional Safety, e.g. plant operator, I&C technician, maintenance technician or as a person responsible for operations and maintenance
Exam
The exam takes place in the afternoon of the last day and consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and 10 open questions.
The exam is passed if 75% of the questions are answered correctly.
Participants who attend the complete FS Technician training and pass the exam will receive an FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate with an individual ID number, which is also indicated on the certificate.
All holders of a valid FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate are listed at the TÜV Rheinland Certipedia website.
The FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate is valid for 5 years.
After the validity has expired, the certificate can be extended once for further 5 years. For this purpose, information and proof of continuous activity in functional safety must be submitted to TÜV Rheinland.
Information
The training takes three (3) days and is conducted as a face-to-face event.
Detailed information and examples for understanding and fulfilling the requirements of Functional Safety according to the international relevant standards IEC61508 / IEC61511 in operational practice are imparted.
It is recommended, to plan additional leaning time after each training day.
