This 2-day training course will provide participants with a skill level sufficient to correctly install, operate and maintain machine safeguarding devices and safety related functions to meet the safety standard requirements.

This training will teach functional safety principles and how to apply them in machinery applications.

Day 1

The purpose of the thought flow and selected modules for day 1 is to confirm the student understands:

  • Where they can find regulatory information, how to use it effectively
  • Their responsibility to identify and mitigate hazards
  • The basic principles of functional safety concepts

Day 2

The purpose of the thought flow and selected modules for day 2 to confirm the student understands:

  • The differences between safety devices and their functions
  • Why some devices are selected based on the application
  • How to maintain a safe system design with maintenance tasks

The topics for day 2 include:

  • Switches (part 2)
  • Light Curtains
  • Area scanner
  • Mats
  • Pressure sensitive edge
  • Pressure sensitive bumper
  • Two hand controls
  • Local Controls and enabling switch
  • Exam

Requirements

  • 1 year job experience as minimum
  • Technical degree or letter stating equivalent training and experience

(like having completed and demonstrated proficiency with other Omron provided elearning (i.e. Introduction to Safety, Safety Light Curtain Basics, Safety Interlock Switch Basics)

Exam

1 to 2 hours

50 multiple choice questions

70% is required passing score
