Initial situation and requirements
Tonnies wishes to fulfill the very demanding, transparent and reasonable objectives of the ISO standard for its entire production chain - from the slaughtering on to the cutting and finishing, as well as the processing of by-products from the beef and pork processing. According to the goal of Tönnies, any building or optimization measure shall ensure better energy efficiency or improve working conditions for employees.

Susanne Lewecke, Head of Environmental and Energy Management at Tönnies, explains the effort required for the certification was necessary: "After the establishment of the environment and energy team about 15 months ago, the environmental program for Tönnies Holding was developed and adopted. We prepared intensively and meticulously over nine months for the week-long audit by TÜV Rheinland.” Company boss Clemens Tonnies provides the target for 2013: "We are striving for the certification of all Tönnies locations and, in this regard, want to report this accomplishment within 2013.”
