Control the chemical safety in your supply chains
Renowned brands and retailers place a high value on the quality and the chemical safety of their textiles, footwear, and leather goods. This is necessary because both, consumers and legislators expect market players to understand all aspects of their production and to know the exact materials and substances in their products. This responsibility spans the entire supply chain, and deviations from the required quality standards can cause significant damage to companies and brands.
But how can you ensure a reliable and comprehensive control, especially given the complexity of international supply chains? The answer: By trusting a reliable partner with many years of experience and an extensive international network.

ZDHC InCheck Level 1 Verification
Trust is good, control is better. Entering your suppliers requires a self-assessment. We are therefore pleased to now also be able to offer you a ZDHC InCheck Level 1 verification of the information provided. For this service we rely on our international network. Our experts in the country of manufacture verify the chemicals of your suppliers directly at the production site.
We are committed to helping our clients improve their environmental sustainability and social responsibility, and the ZDHC InCheck Verifier qualification will enable us to do so more effectively.
Mickey Yu, Vice President Softlines at TÜV RheinlandThus, the verification is the ideal complement to the scan of the chemicals. It enables companies to reduce existing risks to the environment, their workforce and consumers, and to contribute to a sustainable development. The on-site verification of chemicals is part of the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero program.
An important tool of the ZDHC is the "Manufacturing Restricted Substances List", or MRSL. This list contains chemical substances that must not be used in the production and processing of materials for textiles and footwear.
TÜV Rheinland plans to introduce the InCheck verification service initially in the following countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, Cambodia, China, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam.

PFAS testing
Currently, the PFAS group of chemicals (per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is getting special attention worldwide due to their widespread presence in the environment. This is particularly important because PFAS are both harmful to the environment and to human health, and also extremely persistent.
There are already some restrictions for the use of PFAS in garments in the US and in the EU. On February 7, 2023, the ECHA published the report on the proposed restrictions in accordance with Annex XV, which in its current form would represent one of the largest bans on chemicals in Europe. The ZDHC has been seeking a prohibition of PFAS since 2022 and with the MRSL version 3.0 has effectively banned this group of chemicals.
Traceability – Meeting the legal requirements
The textile and clothing industry relies on products, components, and chemicals from international suppliers. Legislators are now also holding brands and retailers accountable for ensuring compliance with environmental and social standards. Germany's Supply Chain Act is just the first notable example of this, with more countries expected to follow.
So, take action now, with a gap analysis on the German Supply Chain Act. As a service provider, we are always up to date on current or planned legal requirements, which is why we are already working on providing you with services for the "Product Passport".
